Dr Hywel Meilyr Griffiths is a lecturer at the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University. The title of his doctorate, funded by a Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Research Scholarship, was ‘Ansefydlogrwydd fertigol ar afonydd Cymru yn ystod y cyfnod hanesyddol’ [Vertical instability on Welsh rivers during the historical period]. He was born and brought up in Llangynog, near Carmarthen, and received his secondary education at Ysgol Gyfun Bro Myrddin, before graduating in Geography and Mathematics at the University of Wales Aberystwyth. His research interests include fluvial response to Holocene climate change, and anthropogenic activities, erosion and precipitation processes and the interaction between geomorphology and archaeology.
