Gwyn Bellamy is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Glasgow. Hailing from the village of Llanrhystud, near Aberystwyth, he completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Warwick before undertaking a Ph.D. with Professor Iain Gordon at the University of Edinburgh. After postdoctoral positions in Chicago, Bonn and Manchester, he took up a lectureship at the University of Glasgow in 2012. His area of research is geometric representation theory, a field at the interface of algebra and geometry. In 2018 he was awarded the Dillwyn medal (STEM) by the Learned Society of Wales.
