Dr Rhian Siân Hodges is a Welsh-medium Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at Bangor University. She graduated in Sociology and Social Policy from Bangor University. After graduating, she completed an MA in Social Research and Social Policy at Bangor, and the title of her dissertation was 'Cymoedd y De: Defnydd o’r Gymraeg ar ôl Cyfnod Ysgol?: Astudiaeth o bobl ifanc yng Nghwm Rhymni' [South Wales Valleys: the Use of Welsh after School?: A study of young people in the Rhymney Valley]. Welsh-medium education in non-Welsh speaking areas then developed into a specialist subject of hers. She completed a doctorate entitled ‘Tua’r Goleuni: Addysg Gymraeg yng Nghwm Rhymni – rhesymau rhieni dros ddewis addysg Gymraeg i’w plant’ [Towards the Light: Welsh Education in the Rhymney Valley – parents' reasons for choosing Welsh education for their children].
