What is 'Gwerddon'?

Gwerddon is an academic e-journal which publishes scholarly research in the Arts, the Humanities and the Sciences twice a year and which conforms to the guidelines of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.

The journal has two main aims, which are to stimulate and encourage first-class academic discussion across as wide a range of subjects as possible through the medium of Welsh and thereby to create a store of scholarly material for the use of research students and academics.

Gwerddon is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.

All articles are published in Welsh and adhere to REF guidelines creating work of an international standard which is peer reviewed. Abstracts are provided in English for the benefit of those who aren’t fluent in Welsh – just click on the article in question and the abstract appears before the article itself. If you need additional help understanding unfamiliar terms, please refer to various websites such as Y Porth Termau or Y Termiadur Addysg.

Gwerddon welcomes original articles in Welsh. The Editor, at his discretion, may accept material which has already been published in another language and later translated into Welsh although the editorial policy is to favour original writing in Welsh.  If you are learning Welsh and need additional support, then this can be provided. Please contact gwybodaeth@gwerddon.org to discuss further.

Gwerddon is supported by an Editorial Board that has representatives from several higher education institutions throughout Wales and its members come from a wide variety of academic disciplines. A Project Board is responsible for the day-to-day administration of Gwerddon and its membership includes the Editor (Professor Ioan Williams), the Editorial Board's chair (Dr. Hefin Jones), the Editorial Assistant, as well as representatives from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
